Ryan Peterson (DOC)

CEO and Founder

Ryan Peterson is CEO and Founder of TrafficGauge, Inc., a company dedicated to easing traffic congestion problems worldwide. The company has grown from servicing a single device in a single city to a company that operates services in seventeen U.S. cities and as far away as Singapore. Because of Peterson's groundbreaking work in the field of traffic data, he is recognized as one of this country's leading experts in traffic data development and management.

The device that drove Peterson into the world of traffic data is of his own creation. With a background in technology product development, he conceived the idea for the TrafficGauge® Mobile Traffic Map on his daily commute on one of Seattle's more congested routes. After enduring the commute for several years and thinking “there must be a better way,” he came up with one.

Over the next four years and with the support of a team of engineers, the idea became a reality. The first TrafficGauge device was introduced to the Seattle market in June 2003. A device covering Los Angeles' notorious traffic congestion was launched in September 2004, followed by the San Francisco device in 2005. TrafficGauge went overseas to Singapore in 2006 with traffic coverage for the entire country. Recently an upgraded Seattle device hit the market adding additional coverage after Peterson was able to work with federal and state governments to garner additional data. Currently tens of thousands of commuters are using TrafficGauge to navigate their commutes. Commuters are not the only one's taking notice; the device has received numerous awards.

The uniqueness of the TrafficGauge product Peterson created has led to the issuance of US patent #6,728,628 and #7,069,143. TrafficGauge's widely respected innovative technology that delivers traffic information to in-vehicle devices such as the TrafficGauge® Mobile Traffic Map and GPS navigators is being enforced and sub-licensed by Acacia Technologies (NASDAQ: ACTG).

Peterson recognizes the need to continually support new technologies. Recently he launched a new service - TrafficGauge for Cell Phone - currently available for free in 17 U.S. cities. He has also introduced TrafficGauge for PC, a free download, which puts real-time traffic one click away by instantly displaying freeway conditions at a home or office PC.

TrafficGauge's customers traditionally save eight hours a month in drive time. This finding led to a groundbreaking study underway with the University of Washington and Washington State Department of Transportation to study the congestion impact TrafficGauge has on the highway infrastructure.

A graduate of the University of Washington, Seattle, Peterson earned his bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering. Prior to founding TrafficGauge, Peterson led product development teams in telematics for Microsoft® and Ford and implantable pacemaker industries with Guidant. He currently serves on Congressman Adam Smith's technology advisory committee and regularly consults with state DOT's on traffic information.
